they work by culturing anaerobic bacteria in their slow flow chambers and fed using either denimar tablets or deniballs. Basically a DSB in a tube. Never used one so not sure how effecient they are.
but from what I have read on them they are a BIG PIA and a waste of money.

Does that media have to be changed or added to over
a period of time? or is it plug and play and just leave
alone? where does it get placed in ones system ?
does it go external or in-sump ?

it depends on which one you get but generally media needs to be changed every 9-12 months. It uses a recirculating pump and can be placed external, in-sump, just about anywhere. Some are kinda complicated and dont really do much.
A good DSB,skimmer, and refuge do the same thing without all the maintenance issues. Throw me your email address and I can give you a link to one that is supposedly pretty good.

Thanks for the info....you talked me out of purchasing
one....if they dont really do much and its something
else that has to be maintained without the benefits of
super improving water conditions, then it is not worth it....
