O.K.
Open your pic in paint and from the image pulldown menu select stretch/skew and enter equal percentages that would reduce your image to under 500x500 pixels. Example: if your image is 2000x2000 dpi you would enter 25% in each field to get a resulting image of 500x500 dpi. Then (in the thread) click on manage attachments under additional options and upload it to your post.

id say the easiest way is to get a photobucket account, then just copy and paste the link under the pics, thats what i do

For an avatar just shrink the photo to 100x100 dpi or go to http://www.gravatar.com/default.php
and they will convert it for use on any board via link.
