Powder Blue Tang in Trouble

I have been having problems with reaccuring ick in my 75 gal. fish only tank. It was due to a retarded mistake I made when I put a fish straight from the petstore into my tank. Of course that introduced the ick and I haven't been able to get rid of it since. I finally worked up enough guts to move all my fish (powder blue tang, hippo tang, picasso trigger and valentini puffer) to a 30 gal. quarantine tank. I am treating with copper. My question is whether or not there is any problem with keeping a PBT in copper for an extended period of time such as two weeks. I ask because it would be a shame to kill such a beautiful fish for such a dumb reason. Also, to treat my 75 gal. tank I just dropped the salinity down to 1.018, would that be enough to kill the ick parasite in two weeks time?
I guess the moral of the story is to ALWAYS quarantine new fish.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't like the idea of putting all my fish in a 30 gallon either, but the ick was getting out of control. Anyway they are doing well in the Q tank so far. All are eating well and show no signs of stress.
I thought it would be prudent to drop the salinity to kill any of the parasites in the 75 gallon tank faster. I just wanted to be absolutely sure the parasite was dead before I put the fish back in. Was this a good choice?
