There are pretty sensitive and are ich prone. They need well established tanks . I personally would not recommend them .But maybe someone can come along and give you a few pointers.

I bought mine at the lfs at 6" for $50. He was a great deal, and had come in 2 days before. Since I got him in the 200 gal he has been doing great and is a very good eater. I have a few caves that he likes to hide in (180 lbs LR).
This guy swims around a lot, from one side of the tank to the other. I think they need a big tank with a lot of swimming room. I wouldn't try one in anything less than a 6 foot tank.

Powder blue tangs are known to be ich magnets, and are not nearly as hardy as some of their cousins! I think the trick to keeping Powder blue tangs is to keep them in a large tank, like starfishjackedme said no less than 6'. I'm not sure but I think they grow to around 9" or 10" in captivity, and the should be well fleshed when purchased not thin in the stomach, and head. a good size to get one would be around 3" to 4". Another thing that I think is important is to offer a varied diet of algaes of marine orgin.
Hope I was of some assistance,

I've had a powder blue in my tank for roughly 4 months. He is by far one of my best eaters. I feed all the fish a varied diet of foods plus a daily piece of seaweed for the tangs and angel. They love it. The powder blue has given me absolutely no troubles at all. As stated in the previous post look for one that is "fairly thick" (good eater), clear eyes and so on. Good luck.

They are not the hardiest of Tangs, like the others said the real trick is feeding them well and giving them space and keep some junk handy for when he gets ich. ( Kent makes this stuff called Rx-p supposed to do wonders and safe for the live rock and most inverts)
Good Luck
