i do-
do you have one already or contemplating getting one?
some quick info is that they too, like the powder blues are very very delicate. don't adapt well in captivity.....
this of course, is what experts report, i do not have one.
i do have a white-faced surgeon (Acanthurus japonicus), commonly sold as a powder brown (actually sold to me that way, but i knew the difference in markings....)
this fish is outstanding! i recommend it highly if you are wanting a tang with the powder brown markings look-
you can email me @ hmccall@sha.state.md.us and i'll provide you the links to some articles about both species if you're interested (i don't think i can put them up here)

I had one that I lost to a tank crash.
He was way cool... we used to call him "The Pony" because of the way he 'galloped' around the tank, and because of his long nosed horsey face.
If I remember right, they require excellent water conditions.

As Heath mentioned a true powder brown can be difficult but most lfs do sell the white faced or cheeked as powder browns. They are somewhat easier then a true powder brown but still not easy and very prone to ich.

I had one of these and it died on me too. He got ick in my main tank and then i put him in my q tank and it cleared up right away. Then i put him back in the main and he died. I should of just left him in the q tank. But my point is they get ick very easy. NOT WORTH IT. Try a Purple Tank they are hardy.

Hey Jimi,
The one my LFS has does have white cheeks, does that mean it is hartier than a regular Powder Brown?

they both have white markings on the face-
powder brown....little white patch under the eye. gold rim around body.
white- faced.....white cheek all the way down to the mouth. gold rim around the body, followed by an orange rim and then the top of the fin is highlighted in blue.
but yes, as jimi mentioned the white faced are proned to ick as well, as all tangs are. it has been reported as doing better in aquarium systems though than the powder species. if your tank is right, this fish can do very well.
have you read any of bob fenner's articles? he has one concerning this very fact. you can find it on his website.

Yes , they have somewhat of a better record then true powder browns but still can not be considered easy or for a beginner. You definately would have a hard time keeping one healthy for long with a nitrate reading of 50ppm.

Powder-brown Tang (Acanturus glaucoparius)
Min. tank size- 80 gallons
Range in Wild- all of the tropical Indo-Pacific
Size- frequently grows to 8" in captivity
Lifespan- should live to 10 years
Conditions- perfect and pristine- this is one of the more ick-prone tangs - good idea to put in tank with cleaner shrimps.
Very similar to the powder blue - some argue it is slightly hardier Good tankmates are clowns and angels, as with all tangs - needs plenty of greens in diet.
I've never had one; this is info I've collected from various resources. IMO, they're one of the prettiest tangs and worth the risk if all the conditions are proper. GoodLuck!
