My lfs is giving me the impression that power compact lighting is necessary to keep anenomes, etc. Is it really...are there any alternatives? Power compact is so expensive...

Actually, VHO or MH are really better for anemones. PC's are okay. They do require more intense lighting than standard florecent bulbs can produce. How deep is your tank? This will make a huge difference on the lighting you may need. The deeper the tank, the more intense lighting you will need. HTH--Bob

I have power compacts and trust me they are nothin' to write home about. IMO They suck. I am planning to switch to MH

What do you all think about the jbj formosa poer compacts? I read that they are the best for the price and work well. Any opinions?

I've had PC's for almost 3 years now and I have clams and acro that are growing strong. IMO VHO's are less than PC's all around. The best is still MH's. But I do understand the cost thing so I would go with PC.
