Power Going Out - Do I Need a Generator?

Hi,
Sorry, this is slightly off-topic...
I got a notice that my power will be out monday from 7 AM to at the latest 5 PM for mainanance. I have a reef tank. Do I need to get a generator to keep my tank warm durning this time period or could I just get a battery-powered air pump to circulate water during the outage? Again, 5 PM is the latest but that's still 10 hrs if it goes that long.
Thanks in advanced!

Minimum, you'd want some battery powered air pumps. They are usually about 15 bucks at a LFS.
If you could though, I would definately get a generator!! Keep the filters, heater, powerheads, pumps (if you have them) and skimmer running. Lights would be OK to be off for a day. Check with equipment rental places to see if you can rent one. If not they sell small ones for like 200 bucks OR...you can go to radio shack and get that one that connects to your car battery via the lighter and you can plug like 4 things into it, downside is you car has to stay running, But if you have a reef, I'd take every possible precaution.

maintenance can take longer then expected if a problem arises.. be sure to prepare for that as well...

since you live in OR then you should get the generator to keep the tank temp. from dropping too much

if you dont get a generator, you can always fill water bottles with warm/hot water to try trhe best you can to keep your water temp normal...just float em in the tank, or the refuge would be better if you hvae one...battery airpump would be very good to have....
edit, in the refuge would not be good....since you would not have circulation, lol.
