POWER HEADS ??

power heads were once used for under gravel filters mainly, now there used to create ripples for air, so to answer your question there not only for the udg filter

Power Sweeps by Zoo Med have a pre filter on them, all you do is take it off once in a while and rinse it out. This way no fishy gets sucked into it.

Most powerheads have screens that you can attach tot he intake to prevent debris [and animals] from getting sucked in. This factor, in and of itself, tells you that powerhead are versatile and used for other things besides ugf. They are heavily used in LR or reef systems.

on my rios i think the design of them is pretty good, it has the filter inside the unit and the intake is spred out from the plastic hence little from each hole dosent make a fish get stuck to it

we make our own UGF systems here and use powerheads for the circulation, i also house an undulated trigger in a solitary tank with a powerhead only for circulation and to promote oxygenation in the water, the trigger is messy and UGF's would clog over time.try and go for a wet/dry system with an external sump. as to which brands we get many different varities mainly from the far east and i have no problems so far.
incidentally would you know of any good marine fish retailers in london? i used to live there and need to order some livestock.
hope the info helps.

Maxi-Jets are by far the best powerheads going. Powerheads are used for circulation and preventing dead spots in the tank.
