that's what we had. all of my corals seem fine, even the sps. the water is a little bit cloudy, and i've lost 80% of my fish/inverts. a 5" sailfin, a 4" regal, a 3" yellow mimic, a 2" tomini, a couple wrasses, 4 cleaner shrimp, 1 fire shrimp, 8 peppermint shrimp, a few porcelain crabs, and whatever else i missed.
what remains is a 3.5" maroon clown, a 12" engineer goby, and a 4+" algae blenny. i saw some emerald crabs and a couple small red leg hermits still kicking as well.
the topper of it all was that the fromia and red bali stars are still alive.
i purchased a 5000 watt generator, but the damage was already done.
it surely won't happen again.
rest in peace little buddies

it might have dropped a couple degrees, but i believe it was the lack of oxygen that killed everything.

a backup battery pump would hv helped a bit.
yes, and a generator would have also helped.
i just wish i was at home to implement either one of these things.

wow I've had much longer than that and no losses but I agree a generator is a must once you've invested a lot of time and money into your tank. I run my car in the garage and use a ac/dc converter to run my pumps (and tv lol) during power outages. happen frequently around here.

X was it b/c of those big storms out there?
The storm only lasted 20 minutes but I could have sworn that a tornado was coming. I saw a few trees catching fire on powerlines and huge tree branchs were breaking off.

Wow. Just when you think you have all the basics covered.

I have the generator, but it's not a backup gen. It's one I have to pull start, but the power cutting off when I'm not home is not something I wanna think about.
Sorry about your fishes. That truly sucks!

Sorry to hear that!!!!! i recently started a "what if battery backup" thread but nobody chimed in, I live in a area that looses power often during storms and am wondering how to avoid the problem you just had. If you have any ideas PLEASE PM me and tell me how to avoid that!!! really sorry fro your loss!

well, there's only 1 way to be sure-
have an electrician wire a generator into your electric service. they make a component that will turn on your generator when the electric company's power ceases.
it's pricey, but full-proof

Thats horrible X, you had, and I hope will continue to have a beautiful tank....I lost power for about 10 hours in Hurricane Gaston in Charleston a few years back, all my fish made it, but they were right on the edge when the power came back.

Sorry to hear, I had a simmilar incident with my FW tank years ago, since then all tanks are on a battery backup that runs some kind of air source and some kind of heat source (depending on the tank), lasts a few hours, long enough to get the generator out and fire it up.

Sorry to hear X, that is the pits! Wonder if home-owners insurance would cover some of the cost? Sounds strange I know, and doesn't make up for what you lost. But might help with get things back to normal
? Just a thought.

I am starting to think more and more about this after hearing about the losses like this and the more live stuff I keep adding to the tank. About 5 years back I hade the power down for about 6 hours and the temp was dropping o my 55 so I started boiling water on the camp stove and adding it back in. did that for about 3 or 4 more hours and was too tired and went to bed, good thing the power came back on while I was sleeping.
Sorry for the lose X
