Power Strip or Surge Protector?

Which one is better/appropriate for use with a power-demanding aquarium?
Any product recommendations?
(I know GFCI outlets are a must, either permanent or Shock Buster adaptor)

I believe most power strips have a built in surge protector.

I myself am looking for a good strip plug I saw these online for $30.00 I am not a fan of strip plugs. But I think they are a must in this hobby due to turning equip on/off when needed.

I went to a local music store and they wanted over $55 for one of those. I just picked one up from here http://www.eliminatorlightingdirect....er_p/e-107.htm It was only $27 shipped. It's a different brand but I'm sure it's the same thing.
What does "600 watts per channel" mean? Is that 600 watts per socket or are there 4 sockets per channel, making it 1200 watts total?
Also, how long is the cord on this unit?

It means that any one switch/outlet on the unit can handle 600w maximum.
The unit also has a total rating of 15 amps, which translates to roughly 1800 watts total, so obviously not every outlet can be fully loaded to 600 watts at once.
You don't really need to worry too much about anything except your lights, heaters, or chillers exceeding that 600w-per-channel limit. Heaters aren't even really a concern because it's rare to find a single heater that is rated at more than 500.

Im gonna bump this old thread. I just ordered these and installed them today...All I can say is WOW! I thought my electrical cords were organized before..but now, even better. It is so awesome that you can control each INDIVIDUAL piece of equipment with the flip of a switch. I highly recommend this product.
