Powerhead question.

Hiya.
The powerhead i have in my 3ft tank is a bit..erm..poor quality. and its damn loud.
I found a nearly non used one i bought to use on a 2ft FW tank, but when i put it in, it was too powerful for my 2ft tank..
I was wondering, is there such thing as TOO much current in a SW tank? How do i know if there is too much current? Can i position the powerhead so it is blowing against a rock? Also, should i adapt the airtube so it is producing bubbles, though, if a bubble gets caught under a rock, and creates an air pocket, will that create die off?
Thanks,
James

There are a bunch of corals which thrive on a stronge current and some not so much. As far as the air tubing Id leave it on. Every now and then Ill areate (sp?) the top surface of water with bubbles (oxygenate). As far as bubbles getting under some rock I dont think it would hurt any.
