powerhead suction cups

I've started stocking my 75g tank... I added a small french angel last night. Well, after being in the tank for about 45 minutes, he got sucked into one of my powerheads. I found him pretty quickly... I unplugged the powerhead and he swam away. This morning he seems fine, so I think everything is ok.
Anyways... I have 2 aquaclear 402 powerheads in the tank. They come with suction cups (that don't seem to work very well) and a plastic clamp thing that hangs on the lip of the tank. I had been using the plastic clamp tihng, but I'm worried that the powerhead might suck up more fish. So I took a piece of tubing (the sutff that's used for UGF) and drilled several small holes in it to allow water to flow into the tube. Then I put a powerhead at each end.

In theory this will keep fish from getting sucked into the powerheads. My problem is getting the powerheads to stick to the glass using the suction cups... they don't suction very well, and the powerheads seem to fall about every hour or so.
Anyone use suction cups to hold their powerheads? Anyone have any luck with them?

sure i use to use both the 301 and the 402 never had any of them fall down from using the suctions cups, just make sure the glass is clean no slime or alge, also make sure the suction cup is clean i put a little seliva/spit ( spelling ) on the cups and stuck them on

I've replaced the little tiny ones that come with powerheads like powersweeps with the larger ones that come with Maxijets. If you can use the clips, you are better off.
The intake of the powerhead should either have a protective screen or a sponge filter attached to it to protect the fish. Maxijets come with the protective intake screens. The only way to be sure that nothing will get caught in them is to cover them with something.

i use rio 800s in the tank and use suction cups on them to sick em to the glass. i agree that you have to make sure the spot you are sticking them in s clean and free of algae, etc. i also prime mine with a little saliva, kinda gross, but makes em stick better, IMO. thats a really cool idea for your intake bar though jackson, nice thinking!
good luck
