Can you use a strong powerhead for a pump in a 10 gallon sump?

depends on what type of overflow you have. if its a drilled tank then no problem it will only drain out as much water as is pumped into it.
if its a continous flow hang on skimmer box then you will have a problem because it needs a certain amount of flow to keep the siphon going.
