powerheads in f/o tanks

I know powerheads are important in a reef tank but, what about in a f/o tank? How are the fish affected? Are they recommended or not?

You may not need as many but should have some to help with gas exchange and eliminate dead spots in your tank.

YOU DO NEED POWERHEADS FOR WATER CIRCULATION.
I HAD MINE CONNECT TO A GFI OUTLET, THE OUTLET TRIPPED AND BY THE TIME I NOTICED MY CORAL BEAUTY WAS DEAD AND THE REST OF THE FISH WERE ON THE BOTTOM GASPING FOR AIR. THE CANISTER FILTER WAS STILL RUNNING BUT IT WASN'T ENOUGH.

It depends on how much circulation your main pump provides.
It should have @ 10 times the tank volume per hour.
If the pump provides this then you should be able to position the return pipes to eliminate dead spots and agitate the surface water.
If your pump has a lower gph rating then you may want to use powerhead to agitate the water surface or breakup the dead spots.

Thanks for all you input. My current pump is well suited for my (75 gal.) tank, as a matter of fact, it creates a decent ripple effect across the top surface of the water. My return is located on the opposite side so there has been decent circulation. But, just to be on the safe side I added a 402 Powerhead near the return flow (going opposite) to create even more circulation. The fish don't seem to mind it. Once again, thanks! and let me know if you have any opinions either way with this setup.
