i got a 300GPH HOB, two 300GPH powerheads for my 55G tank..
my question is this. when i turn my PHs on with the air valve opened all the way, it creates so many bubbles and almost seems like a hurricane in the water..
but if i close the air valve to the point theres no bubbles, then it circulates water, BUT i know its not doing it at 300GPH.
so what do u guys do? full blast or slow it up.. if u slow it up, do u get proper circulation still? what do i do??:happyfish

I dont think bubbles have anything to with it. The bubbles are being blown across the tank from the PHs pressure..You should be able to feel the pressure if you put your hand in front of the PH. What brand of powerheads are they?

i got penguin 1140.
there are TONS of bubbles from the force/pressure when i open the air valve all the way.. it makes the tank look so bubbly/messy..
i know its the pressure, i felt it.. but at full force, it blows a lot of bubbles.. u follow?

interesting... do u guys have adjustable air valves on your powerheads?
i noticed when i submerse my air valve into the water, there are no more air bubbles coming from the PH.
so is the air valve supposed to be in or out the tank??
it seemed like even inside the water, the PH pressure was the same.. should i just submerse the air valve or remove it from the PH?

Yes, all the ph's I have include the option to allow air flow. They also have an option, like a plug, to stop the air flow. All it is doing is sucking air into the tank. The hole affects the suction of the water through the ph outflow, and let's air to be sucked into it also. It is not needed. The reason why it doesn't produce bubbles when you put the tube into the water is that it ain't sucking air, it's sucking water. It's also an option for you to hook up the ph to some other device that may need water flow, or suction.
The ph will produce the same amount of GPH flow with or without the air hole plugged. It will probably produce more GPH with it plugged, for the tank.
Also watch out for the intake of the ph. After a while, it will suck up algea, all kinds of stuff that will block the intake, and that will reduce the GPH of the ph, or burn it out. you need to clean ph's every so often, probably at least every 2 weeks.
