CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME THE PURPOSE OF POWERHEADS...I AM IN THE PROCESS OF PURCHASING A 55-75 GALLON TANK AND I'M NOT SURE WHAT'S IT'S PURPOSE..

they turn the water over for you... I believe your supposed to turn your tank over 5 - 10 times an hour... I may be wrong... saltwater requires alot more movement then fw and the powerheads are one tool that help you out alot

Pirate_Bob is right on the powerheads turn oner the water mass (provide movement- Current) and the tank should turn over a min of 5 x per hour. so the total of all your pumps / powerheads should equal or better exceed 400 gph. Fish in the wild are used to strong currents and the pumps create this folw for our animals

agree with above, and just wanted to add that when the powerheads are put into the tank, make sure there is water movement everywhere, dead spots are breeding ground for algae.
