I thought one of my males was preg because I saw what I thought was a small seahourse head coming from the pouch. Now I think I must have been going crazy because It does not look like that was correct. How can I tell if he is pregnant or not?

when a male gives birth the babies are "lil white balls" when expelled from the pouch and pop open a second later.
In lighter colored SH's u can see the dark mass of fry in his pouch but my dark male NEVER looked preggo he would just like clockwork have fry every 28-30 days so I learned his "schedule"

The cover of Coral Magazines premier issue has a fry being born, with it just coming out of it's fathers pouch. A very impressive photo that I have never been able to catch!
A pregnant seahorse will have a very pronounced pouch, and will be able to swim without problems. He will actually have a very round abdomen, even when his brood is small. Just before delivery, that is. Until he starts to "show", I do not think there is any way to tell if he is carrying.

I am just obsessed w Seahorses! I actually bought a subscription to that magazine after I was given the premier issue. It has a lot of great info. It is actually a westerized version of a European magazine called "Koralle". IME, Europeans, esp Germans have a grasp on our hobby like no other! It seems like every theory, every product is from (or based on) a German concept.
The magazine has in depth detail about a certain genus every issue. It was just cool that seahorses were the first for our version of the mag!
