My dad is buying a T-5 12 bulb 39 watt fixture thats indiv. reflected, the nova extreme pro, an upgrade from 4x96 watt PC's. How can I prevent an algae bloom from happening? Also, how much of an upgrade is this from the PC's? Will I be able to keep most LPS? thanks

Welcome to the Boards!!!!!!!
I went from PC 4x96 to A NEPro 6 bulb at the end of last year on my 72. What a big difference it makes.
Big thing to do is cutting back daily lighting for a period of time. Not just a few days ,but for the next several weeks. Gradually increasing photo period .Do not worry too much about existing corals etc. They will do just fine with reduced lighting for a while.
In actuality any time I have an issue withy a spot of Hair or similar concerns I cut my lighting way back for several days and the issues usually disappear
