preventing ich

I have never had to deal with ich before and last night the water in my tank went from 78 degrees to 90 degrees and back do to 80. all in less than 24 hours.
I was suggested to soak some fish food in garlic to prevent ich.
My question is the only thing i have in the house is frozen brine shimp and i wonder if I should just put that in some water with garlic powder.
Does this sound right and is there a high chance of the fish getting ich? If so what are some things I should keep an eye on I have never seen a fish with ich before.

You could soak the frozen brine in the garlic extract made for fish or go out and buy real garlic. You can soak the food in your own homemade garlic water or chop the garlic into extremely fine pieces and add it to the food. :)
It's possible your fish could get ich, but you won't know unless you start seeing the symptoms. The most common symptoms include the appearance of white spots (they look like salt grains) and scratching.
Hope this helps!

if you qt your fish for a while and its free of dieseases and its eating well doing its thing, It can go in your main tank. If your fish is stressed they have a good chance of getting a diesease such as ick/ich.
