I am going to get a skimmer and i am on a tight budget. I saw the red sea prizm skimmer is pretty inexpensive but i don't know how well it works. Any info on it would be appreciated.
Listen, I know what it is like to be on a tight budget, but the skimmer is not the a thing to cut prices on. Save yourself some money and get something better. In a long run you will probably have to get a better one anyways, so why pay twice.
I love my prism. It works so well. I dont have to fiddle with it. I like that it is so easy to set up. Whatever you decide, just dont get a sea clone... too much trouble.
I have a prizm on a 46 gal tank. It seem to work fine. I read all mostly good reviews on it. I think I paid 75 bucks for it off the internet. I did notice the air vent off the inlet tube was a little loud. They had just a stub of a piece of tubing. I got a 2' piece and ran it over the top of the skimmer and down the back of the aquarium and now you don't hear a thing. All the noise is directed behing the aquarium. It takes about a week to learn the skimmer and the adjustment of the air/water mixture. Put now it's working good and seems to have been a good investment for the money. But, your tank is almost twice the size of mine.
Your tank is 84G right?? The smaller Prizm (I forgot the exact name) only works well in smaller tanks and w/ a 84G I would go w/ other ones but if you have a tight budget, that's probably the only best one you can find. I use the smaller Prizm for my own 20 and it works really well although sometimes it kinda makes some weird noise.
I have 3 marine tanks of 150 gallons, 90 gallons and 50 gallons
red sea prizm on everyone. I have had other more expensive ones, but they are just a pain in the ass.
the prizim is easy to use and set up, and i think works great.
I have had both the prizm and the seaclone 150. Do your self a favor and go with the seaclone 150. It works so much better and adjust so much easier. Plus you do not have as many parts to break. The prizm sometimes leaks after the top is removed a few times. I really love the seaclone 150 and it is only like $75.00
Hi, I had a prism and it never really worked right and I was always afraid that it was going to leak onto the floor as the top is not so tight. I have a Seaclone now and find it to be very simple and easy to use, and the top is secure so I am not afraid of comming home and finding water on the floor. If you do a search on line you can find one for a good price.
