Problem With Damsel

My 29 gallon biocube tank has been up about a year, right now in the tank I have a maroon clown and a yellow tailed damsel. The problem with the damsel is that its head is missing some scales, and is looking a little white. I have not seen it rubbing its head on the rock so have no real idea what could be causing it. I cant post a pic right now but in the morning I will. My perimeters are 1.023 salinity and ammonia is zero, nitrite is zero, and nitrate is 10ppm. The maroon does not show any of the same signs but has only been in the tank for 3 days. I don't believe the clown is bullying the damsel but I could be wrong.

Maroon clown can be bullies especially in a small tank. I have a small one in my 125 she's doubled in length in the 4 months I've had her. She defends her corner of the tank especially against the evil mag float.

Hi,

My GUESS:
New fish had to establish his territory, and the damsel picked the wrong fish to mess with. Both of your fish choices are known bullies... about 6 months to a year, the damsels nasty disposition comes out. A 29g is pretty small for saltwater, sounds like a territory war.

Ok Thanks, just wanted to make sure I didn't have a parasite of some kind. Thanks for the answers and Ill see if I can do anything to fix it.

I have the same 2 fish in the same size tank. Neither bother eachother or other tank mates. That said they both do have reps for being aggressive. W both it seems like its a 50/50 as to what you get. I've had both over a yr now w no issue. New fish added never get bothered. Just my experience tho, it can go either way. It should clear up in a few days tho

Just wondering, how old are the damsels... Most don't show their true aggression for a about a year, one day they just decide to be evil. The one may be okay and not cause trouble, but the 3 may begin to kill each other off first, THEN start in on everything else in the tank with it. If your tank is large enough, maybe you won't have an issue, when it comes to aggression, size of the tank does matter. Fighting over food or space is what starts the whole problem. Personally, I think the 2 spot damsels are the worst, those are the ones most complain about.
