This is normally true, however, Salifert has had some issues with there Alk test, they were testing high. My test was one of them, and after I realized it my alk in my tank was actually low. I have since fixed the problem so now if I am in doubt I use two different tests. Salifert has been working on the problem, but don't know if they have fixed it yet. I would recomend getting a good pH test as well, because it usually goes hand in hand with your alk. If you alk is testing high and your pH is testing low, something is "fishy".
