problem with my royal gramma?

i just got a royal gramma. when i got him home and got a good look at him he had a fin that looks kinda ratty. he also has about an inch and a half of fish waste hanging from him. i know hes supposed to crap but i read something about a fish having an infection and he had a symptom of white waste hanging from him. does he have something wrong with him? i would really appreciatte any help.

hes new so its kinda tough to say how he acts too. he pretty much just hides and sticks his head out of a rock and watches me. ill probably just keep a good eye on him. should i do anything for the rip in his fin?
