problem with stand! need advice.

I have had my tank and stand setup alittle over 2 years now. I just recently noticed that some of the boards that support the tank have what looks to be cracks in them. my lfs said to add some boards to it to add some strength. I was thinking while im at it replace the boards that have cracks in them. the ones that do have the cracks don't have the cracks visible from both sides. another problem that I have is that draining the tank to do this would cause even more problems since I am in an apartment and space is limited. would I be able to replace the cracked boards with the tank on the stand? sorry for the long post

Photos are needed so we can see where the problem is. I use Murphys oil soap on the stand to keep them moist so they don't crack.

I measured these boards and found that they are only just under 1" thick.

I am thinking if you can get a piece of wood and glue it onto the cracked board. After you glue it over the cracked wood drill four small holes and

the two boards together. The reason I am saying drill four small hole is so the wood will not crack when you put the screws to it.

1" thick is 5/4 lumber.That crack is straight up and down following the grain of the wood.Not uncommon.pbienkiewi has the correct fix to your minor problem,1/2" or 3/4" plywood will work best with some glue and screws.

thanks for the help guys. just so I have this right.I need to buy pieces of wood that are the same size as the cracked ones then glue them to it on the inside of the stand? then drill into them and then screwie(trying to see if it would edit it out) them together

Yep,plywood will be your best bet .It wont split.
