Hey guys so today I woke up to a bunch of messed up fish my flame angel and heniochus were dead and every fish was brething very harrd and jusy out of it I checked all my levels and everything was were it should be nitrates nitrites ammonia ph all in check my anemones and coral were all doing great tho they actually looked bigger than ever so what could have happened im just lost right now amd very upset my butterfly was my favorite fish I had him eating out of my hand I had a stronh attachment to him idk what went wrong over night this happened every thing last night was great before I turned the lights off and went to bed

Its so weird tho they all loomked terrible and now everything is ptetty much fine like nothing happened

The survivors are ok but they werent now they are fine like nothing happend every1 is happy as can be I still dont know what went on I lost my flame angel and heniochus they are eating great swimming happily pickin at the rocks the clowns are playin in the bubble tip idk

The only thing I did was that night I turned my skimmer off and then turned it back on when I seen what went on and within an hour after everything was back 2 normal

Nothing you did seems to be off... The skimmer wouldn't make that big a deal, it only removes organics from the water. How many power heads do you have running? It could be an oxygen thing, do you keep your tank covered?

I have to circulation pumps I have and aqueon 950 and the aqueon 500 but now that you metion it the 950 was off it was on the same surge as the protein skimmer and I tured the whole thing off could that have been it?? And why would my oxygen be low like that I have 2 acrylic lids but they are well vented

Saltwater has less oxygen then freshwater. The top of the tank needs to really move...I make mine look like it's boiling. The tank needs to be open completely so you can get the best gas exchange possible. If you turned off a power head, and the tank is covered...yes it could suffocate the fish.

I'm not sure I understand how an acrylic lid could be well vented...Do you mean open a little in the back?

Yeah it has cuts in the back for my over flow and it has holes about the size of ur index finger running down the middle about 16 of them all the way across

Hi...remove it. SW tanks need to be open, if you have fish that jump, use egg crate or make yourself a mesh topper. The wave is the life of the ocean, and you saltwater tank, point one power head toward the surface, and the other to flow over the rocks to keep them clear of detritus.
