Problems with pair of clowns and o0ther fish...

Hello,
I've had my 55 gallon tank for years, since around 2005. From 2005 until about a year ago I had Two Paired False Clowns and a yellow tang in the the tank and at one point two blue/green chromis, about a month into the tank, the chromis died.
Last year, I added a watchmen goby and a pygmy angel (the angel last a week)
After 5 years I lost my Yellow tang last week, I knew he hadn't looked great the last week and we lost him.
I just added (3) 3 stripe damsels, and now they seem to be at war with the pair of clowns, the clowns are the aggressors.. I lost one of the damsels today, as it was swimming on it's side in the sand...
I rearranged the rock to try and settle new territory, and it hasn't done any good.
I figured the clowns would have a problem with a new addition so i went with what was supposed to be a threesome of fish that would stand up for themselves... It hasn't worked out, and I'm sure it's doomed...
What do I do? I'm certainly not at my limit with a goby and two clowns in a 55 gallon... I obviously don't see the goby much, it just lives in the rocks and sand..

Have you considered a larger fish, more like a dwarf angel (again) or another small tang? Personally I don't believe that a yellow tang belongs in a 55, but you "could" get away with a Kole. The clowns attacking the damsels is more likely that they're all damsels and are just aggressive, especially towards each other. A sixline wrasse should be able to hold it's own as well. Is this a fowlr or reef?

+1 about 6-line wrasse

Also, even if the damsels did work out with the clowns, you'd have a new issue. Almost nothing works out with damsels....

I found 1 fish that works great with damsels and that is a pseudochromis. My strawberry pseudochromis beat the snot out of my damsels, and my coral beauty, and my clownfish, and my sunrise dottyback.

That's actually surprising, the strawberry pseudochromis is supposed to be the more peaceful dottybacks, even though they're still considered "semi-aggressive". I'm actually thinking about putting one in my 14G, maybe I will re-think that, especially since I have a peaceful tail spot blenny and a peaceful (and expensive) yasha goby/pistol shrimp pair in this tank.

The Yellow tang had a long run int he tank of 5 years, so I guess it did fine in a 55 gallon.
I'll look into the wrasse.
I've got some crabs in there as well, I may add some more invertibrates...
Any other suggestions on active fish that I could get away with?

I know I love and suggest a royal gramma. They are great to watch, and seem to have a personality of their own. It does burrow under live rock in the sand. I think one of my favorite things about it besides the briliant color is when anyfish comes near its den or threatens it the mouth opens. It can be shocking the first couple times because this little fish looks like it could swallow its own body. Best of luck to you and your tank

5 years would be considered short term in an appropriate sized tank but in a 55 I guess you could consider it long term
