What exactly is a power head? What does it do, and how does it work? Where do you put it, and how should I set one up? I have a 25 gallon tank, do I need one?
Thanks for the help.
Cheers.

Powerheads are basically used for water circulation and if needed airation. It sucks water up at the base of it and discharges it through an exhaust port near the top.
You can really put it anywhere at the top of the tank, depending on which way you want your water circulation to flow. They usually come with an aiartube attached to it, but if you don't want alot of airbubbles in your tank, take it off before you install it.
For a 25 gallon tank I would get one.

There are many brands of power heads. I use RIO. They have many sizes and different accessories to enhance the circulation in your tank. Im sure your local fish store can recommend you one suitable for your tank size. Good Luck.
