Product Name: Saltwater Liquid Master Test Kit API
Date Purchased: 06/01/2005
Approximate Cost: $29.99
Features: pH solution, Ammonia bottle 1 and 2, Nitrite bottle 1 and 2, Nitrate bottle 1 and 2, four test tubes, four color chart cards, and one manual. They are all seated nicely in a standard black case with a clear acrylic cover. Everything you need to get your most basic water parameters are located in this test kit.
Benefits: Purchasing a test kit will allow you to monitor your water quality. It will also help you determine when your initial Nitrogen Cycle is complete. By knowing where your water stands, you can make a better decision about purchasing live animals.
Pros: If you test your water parameters, you know if you have any Ammonia or Nitrite in your system, and you can make the best decisions about buying a fish. You will kill less fish/live goods.
Cons: Have steady hands and a solid work table. If you are allergic to some chemicals, wear gloves when necessary. (for the most part, you don’t have to wear gloves) The test tubes are very easy to topple over.
Tips and Tricks: Cap the test tube with the test cap. Do not use your finger. Residual chemicals on your fingers will leach into the solution and can (and most of the time will) distort your results. Always follow the directions to the letter. While you are waiting for the test to get done, read in the manual what you are testing for and why it is important to monitor it.
Mods: There are no known mods for this test kit.
Variations: no variations for this same product.
Personal Opinion: When you are on a budget, or a new to testing, this test kit is for you. There are better test kits out there, but this is one that I have come back to every time. I also recommend all of API Brand Name products because I have seen decent results.
