Date Purchased: 01/01/06
Approximate Cost: $10
Features: White pad that you can cut to any size or shape and will easily fit in any HOB filter or Sump.
Benefits: Besides acting as a mechanical filter, it also removes: Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates, Phosphates, copper, Iron, and can even remove medications after treatment.
Pros: Normal waste is going to be shown as brown or black. Copper will show up as blue, Iron will show up as green. It will remove waste, and medications which is a really good thing. They absolutely do work.
Cons: If you have a high bioload, they will clog up really quickly and will have to be replaced. They will improve water quality, however, they cost a lot to run constantly. Some nutrients in the tank is actually better then none.
Tips and Tricks: Only use them when you need to decrease your ammonia or nitrate levels really quickly. Also, they are great to run when you have hair algae and cyanobacteria and general algae problems. Cut the pad in half and make it last twice as long.
Mods: No known mods, besides cutting the pad, are known.
Variations: No known variations of this same product.
Personal Opinion: This is not a catch-all or a miracle product. You should have other types of biological, mechanical, and chemical filtration to control your water quality. They are great to run when you are in a pinch, and also great to run in a quarantine tank.
