If you have good water quality it shouldn't take that long. If the fin is torn it will generally heal overnight. If its completely missing then it could take a month or so for it to regenerate, if your water is of good quality. What kind of fish is it, and exactly how does the fin look?

Fin rengeneration absolutely NEEDS ideal water quality. If you have ideal water quality, along with varied and nutritious feeding, I would recommend using vitamin C in the fish's food. Vitamin C helps with fin regeneration. Kent Marine makes a vitamin C supplement. Selcon is also very high in Vitamin C, as is VitaChem.

Well, I just want to let you know that that diet will not sustain fish very long. You need to get variety into the fish's diet. Think of all the possible things that fish could eat in the wild. You need to replicate this kind of diet at home. Also, think about yourself. If all you ate during the week was salad (algae) and potato chips (brine shrimp), you would not be very healthy or happy. Fish are the same way.
Also, vitamins are very important too (Zoe, Selcon, VitaChem), as well as garlic.
You want to include at least 6 or 7 different types of seafood into the fish's diet. The best way to do this is to pick up formula foods. Formula foods each contain 8 to 9 different seafoods.

Formula A or 1, Formula B or 2, Reef Formula, Algae Formula, Angel Formula, etc.
Basically, they are just a blend of different seafoods all in one frozen food. This way, you don't have to go out and individually buy krill, prawn, clam, mussel, kelp, seaweed, mysis shrimp, plankton, squid, etc.

Ocean Nutrition makes Formula 1, 2, reef formula, VHP formula (very high protein), angel formula (high in sponge), trigger formula (high in sea urchin), and shark formula (high in tuna). Angel, trigger, and shark can also be used for other fish though, since they contain a lot of other seafoods in them as well. For instance, my angelfish loves angel formula, but so does my batfish.

Anyone who has kept fish for a long time will tell you that one of the most important thing to keeping fish is giving them a huge variety in their diet, loaded with vitamins. At all times, there are 7 different types of frozen foods in my freezer, along with the freeze-dried sea veggies I give them, fresh banana, and protein pellets.

Yep, I chop it, put it in a cup of tank water, soak it in the vitamin of the day/Garlic, and then put it in with the rest of thier food. My batfish loves it, as do my angelfish and tang.
