Proper jell-o shots.

I stumbed across an article titled "world's strongest jell-o shots" and thought maybe someone had found my recipe. But no, the nitwit that thought they were making the "world's strongest jell-o shot" used Bacardi 151.
Bacardi 151 is a strong liquor, but by no stretch of the imagination is it the strongest. Everclear is the most potent legal liquor you can buy. (as far as I know, and this is limited to the United States)
Now i'm a big fan of jell-o shots. I had my first generic jell-o shot made with vodka when I was 15. I started experimenting on my own with different types and colors and proofs of liquor until I learned that a "true" jell-o shot needs everclear. I experimented with different amounts of everclear and different methods to get it to set and stay set. I finally perfected the "world's strongest jell-o shot" by the time I was 18. The little buggers were so everclear rich they would only set in the freezer. All the other recipes for the "world's strongest jell-o shot" involve the fridge. Those that are even mildly intelligent know alcohol freezes at a much lower temperature than water. Using common sense should lead someone to conclude there isn't much alcohol in jell-o that can set in a fridge.
Almost every New Years Eve party and EVERY birthday party I had included many jell-o shots of different flavors. To those that have had the opportunity to get drunk on everclear jell-o shots know it's a completely different drunk you'll get from anything else. The slow release of the grain alcohol from the jell-o gives an entirely new intoxication. You stay drunk longer, you usually wake up drunk, and you usually have the most massive hangover you've ever experienced (even if you follow the cardinal rules of drinking).
Anyways, this has absolutely no point, just me pointing another human's screwed up, un-informed assumption. And I was kinda curious to know how many other people think the proper "strongest" jell-o shot isn't made with the strongest legal alcohol available.

so whats the recipe? I used to be a big fan of jello shots, actually used to make them in the juggler easter egg molds. I would use 1/2 water, 1/2 70proof absolute. I am a big fan of everclear, but have to drive to NJ to get it, as its illegal in PA

we used to make them with everclear, but it is very hard to come by... we have to travel to Nevada to get it, and i am not sure if its still available... so we are kind of forced to use 151 now...

Everclear is illegal in a lot of places. We cant get it here in NY that I know of.
Now, as for Jello shots. I prefer mine made with vodka but I do things a little differently. Get this stuff called Knox. Its a clear, unflavored gelatin that is used for baking. It comes with 4 envelopes in a box. Use one of those envelopes along with your jello and the alcohol of your choice. This stuff sets up much harder than regular jello so you can pour the mixture in a square baking dish and once it hardens you can cut it into cubes that are solid enough to hold in your hand. MUCH cooler than slurping them out of little cups!

Damn good idea Zim. I could probably use the fridge if I used more gelatin.
I had no idea everclear was illegal in some states. I've bought bottles in both Texas and Arizona with no problems finding a place that had it (any liquor store). And if I remember right.....I think Albertson's was where I got my first bottle........I could be wrong though because that don't seem right.
Follow the usual jell-o recipe mixing the jell-o with boiling water but instead of cold water use everclear. I believe that makes it half water, half alcohol. Here's the trick, once in the freezer, you'll have to stir it about once every half hour at first. Otherwise the everclear with seperate and sit on top.

if you bought Everclear from an Albies you would have had to been in Cali, Nevada or Arizona... its illegal here too and about 5 years ago (maybe more) made illegal in Oregon too...
