Since my tank is in my room I shut my skimmer off when I sleep for 8 hours then turn it back on when I wake. Alittle to loud for my liking when im sleeping. My levels have alwayz been ammonia 0 nitrite 0 and nitrate around 5. So I see no problems with doing that.
