Protein Skimmer = almost vomiting

So we bought a protein skimmer and have had it up and running a couple of days. So tonight I emptied it and WOW what a horrible horrible smell. I have smelled some nasty stuff but so far that has been the worst!
But any way so far things have been going really well. We bought a clean up crew from here. Some snails, crabs, and 2 cleaner claims. And picked up a few bigger snails from the LFS along with some more LR. I have say the snails are doing a great job cleaning up the rocks.
We got a little excited after the tank cycled and picked up two Clowns. They are doing great eating really good and are very active. Much more fun to watch than my cichlids.
So now we wait and try to figure out what the next fish will be.

That stuff is NASTY! Soon you won't hardly notice...either that or you will teach yourself not to inhale...one of the two...

I wonder if there was a way to remove the salt from it like drying it or something and turn it into a powder to sprinkle on plants and stuff.
