protein skimmer going crazy

We just switched to live sand from CC
The protein skimmer is bubbling like mad, even out the top of the hole the leaking down the side
Is this normal, because of the switch?

I would say yes that is normal just think you when from CC to live sand I would say that would make a difference. live sand probably had alot more organic matter so skimmer will throw more bubbles to catch the protiens no big deal that will go on for about a day or so make sure you clean the cup and dump it rest asure your skimmer is working that a good thing LOL...

It is normal anytime there is an increase of protein and what have you in the water column. An overly-frothy protein skimmer always means that it's at least doing what it's supposed to. I notice mine bubbles more after feeding.

mine did the same thing when I put all new sand in. It cooled off in about two days. I was running it 14hrs the first day. Then after about 8hrs the 2nd day it slowed down.

ok after the night
in teh morning the skimmer was all most all teh way full
I empty it and now there is bubbles below the cup but nothing coming up inside the cup
Normal?

Totally normal, there is less "stuff" to skim now. When it builds up it will dump into the collection cup.
