protein skimmer on a nanocube

i was told a while ago that with the ecosystem type wet/dry filter, you did not need a protein skimmer in a saltwater tank. now i've read posts on here where people are using protein skimmers on their biocube/nanocube tanks.
2 questions
1. do you really need a protein skimmer on these tanks?
2. where do you put it if you do indeed decide to get one? there is limited space for one in a biocube due to the hood/lighting config.

Hello,
I have an AquaPod 24. I searched around until I found a skimmer from Sapphire Aquatics. The #AP24 fits in the right hand side of the back chamber. It works pretty well but it's a little tricky to get the water level just right in it. Check with one of the nano companies like nanotuners.com.
As far as whether or not to go with one at all, I would definitely get one unless you plan on doing massive weekly water changes. The difference in the water quality, clarity and levels with a skimmer is amazing.

thanks for the reply--i think i will get one as i see that they're only about $40.
one more question---how often should i run it, and should i wait until after the nitro cycle to start using it?

I would run wo it during your cycle. as far as when to run it... i would run it all the time. thats what they're designed for.

I tried the 40 dollar model. No luck. Then I bought the Sapphire Aquatics BC29 for my BioCube. WOW! what a difference. Run it 24/7. Good Luck
