Protein Skimmer Operation

I am have recently added a Berlin Air Lift 60 with a profile 4000 air pump with a valve to my 30 gal. I am wondering how it should look while its running. Amount of foam going into cup, does the cup fill up with water/foam and then spill out the little hole on the top, etc. Im a little confused or if I have it adjusted right.

Also remember to clean it when it gets gunky. I found that when mine is dirty, it doesn't clean near as good.
