protein skimmer

I have a Berlin Turbo XL protein skimmer for my 200gallon reef tank with 40 long underneath. Anyway, the skimmer has been set-up since November 2001 and it seems as though the pump has given out. I took it apart and it is clean, but still doesn't work. It stopped about the same time I was cleaning out the collection cup, yesterday. Any suggestions? Does anyone have experience with this unit? I can't believe it would go out after just a few months.

My self and also a few of my friends have experienced this problem with the tirbo pump. It is a good pump when it works but it shuts down alot. I just took it apart again and try running it out of water with just the impellor in it. If it starts running I put it back together and it works fine. If it does not turn I turn the impellor my hand and then it starts up. They need to fix this problem. I hope this helps.

I've had the same trouble with the pump not working. I contacted Red Sea, and they're sending a new impeller. They've apparently had problems with them.

Do you have suggestions on how to get the impeller out? I can't get the casing open to get it out. Do you have a email address for Red sea, I tried looking under redsea.com, but no luck.
