Protein Skimmer

I am fairly new to salt water tanks. I have a skimmer that has been working fine up to a month ago. Now every so often it stops collecting the protein. It has no bubbles in it at all. I will turn it off, clean it and plug it back in and it will work correctly for a week then stop again. Is it going bad or is there something else going on?
Thanks

It is a Coralife Super Skimmer Needle Wheel for a 65 gallon tank. I have not changed anything except for the brand of brineshrimp that I feed them. I have a 55 gallon tank that has been working perfectly for about a year.

Well, if there's NO BUBBLES IN IT AT ALL, then there's either no air being drawn into the venturi, or the pumps not working at all. When you say none at all, what exactly do you mean? If it's just pumping water, then clean it very good with a soaking in vinegar, and scrubbing with a stiff tooth brush. I use a denture brush myself. If it's just not making foam in the neck and cup, then it could be that's there's just not that much there, which is highly unlikely unless you barely feed the fish, or it's just loosing it's efficiency because it needs a good cleaning, most likely the cause. A skimmer is most efficient when the neck is clean.
