Protein Skimmers???

Is a protein skimmer essential in the swfa or is it just something that is good to have down the line? Im looking into buying one but have no knowledge on how much they cost, what is a good name, etc. Are back pack protein skimmers good for smaller tanks like a 33g? Also, can you use one even though a tank is not fully cycled or does it help the cycling process? Is it need with lr?

A Protien skimmer is good to have to most but there are some who do not use one and have good results. For a 33 gallon tank you good get a small one like a Red Sea Prizim which is relativly inexpensive.

You can use it even though the tank is not fully cycled but it probably will not skim anything out.
