Protein Skimmers

Perhaps someone can post a diagram. I'm not that tech saavy, so 'll just try to explain.
A regular skimmer takes water from the tank (or sump) usually by a water pump, mixes it with air and pumps it into the skimmer column.
A recirculating skimmer gets water from the tank or sump separately from the pump thhat mixes that water with air. So water goes in by any of a variety of methods, and a pump mixes that water (already in the skimmer column) and returns it, mixed with air back into the skimmer column.
