Protein Skimming

I have been using a Protein Skimmer in my 55 gallon tank, and it has been removing some nasty looks stuff. I have heard that is does pull out some good things also, should I be adding anything special to the water to replace anything the skimmer may be removing?

I've read that it removes iodine. So you can supplement that (or just make water changes every week). If you supplement iodine, I would get a test kit for it, as it is easy to probably easy to overdose if your filter or corals aren't absorbing them as fast as you (or the supplement label) thinks they are.

If you do regular water changes, like once a month, you don't have to add anything. If not, get a trace element supplement and add it per directions. Don't overdo it with additives though.
