protien skimmer problem

Quick rundown. 20 gallon extra high, Aquaclear 150, Magnium heater, Live rock and live crushed coral sand. Cycled and done. Regular water changes. turbo snails, blue hermit crabs (changed shells already), peppermint shrimp (shed twice) and firefish.
Fission Nano protien skimmer is giving me alot of micro bubbles and doesn't seem to give me the right amount of scum as compaired to water.
I have made the water flow slower and put two bubble disks in and still, it's not right. I have contacted the company and they sent me a new pump but I'm still not happy with it. I want to have seahorses so the micro bubbles are not good for them.
Anyone else have problems or can suggest how I can fix this thing?
Thank you in advance for your help.

I had one and finally gave up on it and gave it to my daughter for her 10 gallon. They say to put it in the water below the filter but I find that if the water level is at the bottom of the filter, it produces no micro bubbles. Also if it is new it will take a couple of days to get it to give you foam instead of water.
Honestly it is a waste of money if you paid more than $10. you could of bought a odyssea Refrugium for $49. 14x13.5x4 and it has a built in skimmer. It is a HOB and allows for Algea to be in it to reduce your nitrates.

Thanks Scubaguy. The company said I could send it back if I wasn't happy with it. I was actually thinking of building a refugium and putting a skimmer in it so this Odyssea may be what I need. Thank you
