PS3/GT5 problems....

Got PS3/GT5 from Santa, but had some problems with it locking up today (Day 1). First time was after returning to the main menu from a 2player race, the menu loaded, but the little arrow didn't and no controller functions did anything (didn't try the home/menu on the controller tho, might have worked). Second time and third time, was freshly turning on the system, and loading GT5. One time locked on a completely black screen before the title page, and the third locked up was on the GT5 title page, but I was able to press the home key on the controller, and get back into the PS3 home menu. The fourth and final time, was after a 2-player race, the main menu loaded but again, no arrow/controller functions. I held the home button on the controller down (to turn off system/controller/etc), and that popped up the arrow, and it finally loaded a new background, the one with the white Honda CR-Z on the freeway.
I wonder if loading that background (it is huge and impressive) was perhaps causing the stalling? I was also in the process of downloading two demos at the same time. Since then, about 2hrs of play time, it's been fine. But obviously for a brand-new system and brand-new game, I am concerned, and wondering if anyone else is expereincing problems. The hanging up, seems to be caused by GT5, not the PS3 itself.

I've never experience any lock ups on my system like that I can recall. GT5 plays fine for me. It's probably because of the demos. When you first fired up the system and the game did you download all current updates? Did you get your racing chair?

Phew...., so it's not just me, nor the PS3. GT5 basically times out (technically fails to properly time out) while trying to access the online servers. I'm sure the combination of my mediocre at best ATT internet and downloading the demos at same time was the cause. Been playing a lot since, and no more issues. Yep, I updated every thing right away, installed it on my HD as well.
Got Iron Man 2 and Predators on Blu-Ray, and to be honest, I was a little disappointed in the quality. Did you adjust the video setting at all? Cross Color Reduction On/Off? RBG Full Range Limited /Full? Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super White On/Off? Deep Color Output On/Off? I mean some parts looked pretty good, but for example in Iron Man 2, when they are in Monaco, just before the race, in the cafe, it looks a little grainy. Like taking a video in too low of light.
Yep! Got the chair. It's awesome, mimics a real racing seat great. It's a little lower then I thought, but that just means I gotta mount the tv low on the wall. The butt to ground comparison in the chair, to in a car is quite accurate. Having a hell of a time though designing a steering wheel mount that coparates my keyboard and mouse as well. But pic of the chair in the room;

Looks good. Yeah I seen what you were saying yesterday when I was playing online, the game froze up once and then I got booted off the server another time. It's never happend to me durring normal play though. When I first got the game almost a month ago there were so many people trying to play online that the servers couldn't handle it and you couldnt even get on.
I never messed with anything on the blu ray player. Again, I've had no problems there with picture quality. I'm actually quite happy with it.
Funny, my buddy actually got me a gaming chair for christmas too and I wasn't even expecting it. It's not the AK it's the Pulse rocker something or other. Has two build in speakers right next to each ear and then a small sub woofer in the middle of the back so you feel the rumble from the base sound of the cars. I have no idea yet what to do about a table for it. It will have to be very low to the ground though if I do make one. I raced all weekend with the wheel on my lap and got kind of used to it, it's not too bad but still want some type of table. I did make a new mount for the peddles though. It holds them up on a 45 degree angle. I'll try to get some pics tonight.
Let me know what your name is so that I can add ya. Maybe we can race sometime.

Angelfish_Crazy <- my PSN name). Probably won't be racing online much till I get the wheel up and running. Coming straight from FM3, the hardest thing with GT5, is getting the cars to not snap around on ya'. I don't race with assists (minus modest ABS on street cars, it's a realism thing for me), and these cars on GT5 sure do like to hook.
Good, (I guess for me, unfortunate for you) to hear I'm not the only one with freezing issues. As far as Blu-Ray quality, I believe it's my tv, a LG LCD. My brother got a Philips HDTV for X-Mas, and we hooked playstation up, and looked great on his. This LG is just on another level for picture quality IMHO.
Funny about the rocker, that actually was one of my complaints about gaming chairs out today, any of the more serious chairs, have some audio setup in them. I eventually plan on bringing my Mirage OM-9 towers from the living room and adding a powered-sub for a top-shelf 2.1 setup, for all the sound I could ever want
. And going with a lighter 5.1/7.1 setup in the tv room, so I wasn't sure about getting a rocker with speakers built in. I betcha the smaller driver in the mid-back does feel pretty cool. That Pulse, that's the one with the armrests?

So how's it going...still having issues with it? I haven't done the online play very much. I did a little bit last night and I'm getting to know it a little better. The online play you have to make sure you go into your driving options before each race begins and make sure you select the proper tires for the vehicle. You can also adjust your breaks and your assists if you want to. But you have to do it before each race because it resets to default unlike in normal GT Mode. Didn't really have any more issues. I think it's just one of those things that can be hit or miss when trying to play on the net.
Sorry about the blu ray quality. Like I said mine does pretty well but my t.v. is over 3 years old now and it wasn't super high end or anything. Did you say it was a 3D t.v.?
Yep the rocker has the arm rests...I'm actually very happy about that because the support is nice when you're going to be sitting there for a while. The chair is very comfortable. The speakers are really nothing special but they sound respectable if you're the one in the chair. I haven't thoroughly inspected it yet to see if it was going to be feasible to upgrade the speakers or not. But I keep the volume going on the t.v. as well as my little surround sound speakers so I have no problems hearing the game at all lol.

Here's the little base for the peddles that I'm using. It works pretty well...I can easily adjust them by loosening a couple of screws real quick with a drill. I haven't totally decided of I'm going to keep them this way permanently. I guess it depends on when or if I decide to make a table for it or not. I like having the wheel low and it feels comfortable where it is when it's in your lap...I just wish it didn't move. So I'm still thinking about ideas for a table. Will have to be very low and leave me leg room to work the peddles.

Problem is still intermittent. Just today after completing the A-license with all silvers, and getting up to level 5 A-Spec (can tell how much I play career mode, mostly 2P), it froze up again on the GT loading logo. I guess because I won I think 3 cars at once, had trouble loading everything together?? I still was able to instantly get back to PS3 home by holding the center button, so I am positive now it's a GT5 problem, not a PS3. I gave my PS3 a little endurance test a few days ago, after finishing a 2player race, let it run for a couple hours on that "ok" screen with both cars still running, and no issues then when I got back.
My tv is a LG 42LD550, no 3D, just a regular LCD (not LED) that has really impressive picture, I picked up this year on a good Black Friday sale. I played with the PS3 settings, turned everything on/better that I mentioned before, and it's pretty decent now. The problem isn't all the time, in fact most of the scenes and stuff are very nice. It's some lower brightness scenes, that look like they shot the film that way. I'm sure for some of the big-budget films, this wouldn't have even been an opinion to have grainy film. Might tinker with the TV settings itself and see.
The pedal setup looks pretty cool. I was thinking for mine, a smaller pedal base, that would be separate from the wheel stand. But with a large, more specifically heavier, pedal base, I could attach the wheel stand to it, and that would definitely help stabilize it. Just with like 2 tray tables, with any real forcefeed back in the wheel, they rock very easily, which is my biggest concern to eliminate. Build the pedal stand out of some really heavy 1/2" MDF or something, and a sturdy wheel mount, that thing isn't going anywhere.
I bet that faux leather on your rocker is probably going to last as while. The seat skin on the AK is sort of that mesh fabric, quite similar to what a lot of the new cars have, but I'm not sure how it's going to wear. The bolsters are nice and supportive, but I think they might wear. Might keep scanning ebay for a backup skin.

Cool, man...let me know what you end up coming up with for a base and wheel stand. I just signed up for the GT Acadamy so I think I'm gonna try and see what those seasonal events are all about. Your chair should hold up pretty good. I have the AK computer chair that is made out of the same material. I've had it for just over 3 years now and it's still going strong. I spend more time in the chair when I'm at home than I do anything else. No rips or tears...probably one of the best chairs I've ever owned.
