Psuedochromis died :( and had a brown spot

I got a Psuedochromis from the LFS and it died in just 3 days. I also got a Firefish and it is alive. Do you think I got a bad fish?
The fish had like a brown mark on its body, or brown spot???
Water levels are all decent, Nitrates are 40ppm, Phosphates are like nil and then the Alk is at 12 (which I wish was at 8 but still within range).

Sometimes, fish just don't make it and we never know why. I wouldn't buy any fish with a "brown spot", or any other potential problem. Dark discoloration can often be a bruise and a sign of internal injuries. Also, make sure you see a fish eat at the LFS. BTW, nitrate unless off the charts, and phosphates don't hurt fish. In the future, if you have a fish with problems; try to post a pic in the disease section, you just might save it.

It developed the brown spot which worried me but it had to be internal as you said. Thanks for the info
