i have one in a 10 gal...i know now thats too small of a tank to keep it in because it eats live pods...should have researched a little more before i bought it i know i know
, but its doing well and i'm willing to spent the 20 bucks a week on it for live tigger pods and i'm attempting to raise brine shrimp for it to eat as well because i have heard it will eat them too. is this true? i have quite a bit of live rock in there for it do you think there is any way the pods will breed in the tank? i think the answer is no but i still want more opinions...

thanks fro any advice!

isn't it $960.00 a year on 1 fish?
20$ x 4 weeks= 80$ per month and 80$ x 12 months=960$
to me its worth it, i really want this fish

960 bucks again for 1 fish in food only? Take the fish back it will need hundreds of pods a week and the also need about 75lbs of rock and a fuge to live

well, I guess its time to upgrade then. what about a 50 gal tank? and it just needs the fuge to cultivate pods right?

75lbs is a min but you can build a fuge to grow your own.I built a hob fuge for my 36g corner tank.look in the search in the blue bar and type dyi fuge

i think it would be cool if someone had a 10 gallon display tank full of live rock with a mandarian and a huge garbage can (like 40 gallons or so) under the stand full of rock and pods so that this could be possible. in big tanks these small fish seem to get lost in all the scenery. plus the water quality would be much more stable.

krichardson, I will say...I love mandrins...It is actually the ONLY fish I cared to have in this hobby. I know LOTS of people love these fish also and buy them thinking they will be able to be the one to get them to eat prepared food, etc, etc. Most always...it doesnt work.
IMO,if you are prepared to spend the money on buying pods..like you say.. My advise would be to spend that money and upgrade to a MUCH larger tank.Larger tanks are easier to care anyways. I have a 130,with 200 lbs of LR and I have lost 1 mandrin due to starvation. I have my 2nd one now for 8 months....(hes doing great, and really FAT) but only after I added a 45 gallon fuge to my set-up. I have tons of pods everywhere. They are cool fish and unfortunately too many of them starve to death in our tanks. Good luck

then take it back and buy another 8 months after you upgrade. patience is the key to success in saltwater unfortunately!
