puffer and tank

in my tank growing on just one side of the tank there is this weird looking stringy red stuff growing there i am guessing it may be algae but since i have never seen it before i have now idea what it is. next my spiny puffer is getting some lighly colored spots they almost look faded like he is losing his color especially around the facewhat could this be?
oh yeah my tank is a 120 gallon and it's stats are
ph=8.2
nitrites=0
nitrates=0
ammonia=0
and accoriding to my test kit my alk=medium it ranks it from low to high

The red stringy stuff sounds like red slime or cyanobacteria. Not considered a good thing. Try a search.
As for the puffer, I recommend you post this seperately in the disease forum. There's a few good stickies at the top regarding what info to post and FAQs. They'll be more qualified to help.
