Puffer & Eel

I have a stars & stripes puffer (8-9") and a snowflake eel (22"). When the puffer is laying on a rock just resting after eating or something, the eel will come up and bite him just to do it. The puffer scoots off to another area of the tank and rests there. Once in a while the eel will follow and bit again. The eel doesn't bother ANYTHING else in the tank (trigger, clown, starfish). Has anyone else seen this type of behavior out of the eels? Thanks.

i hav a snowflake with 4 triggers and a lionfish and a big tomato clown and when it,s feeding time they all stay away from the eel because at first they will take the food i try to feed him ,so he is very active and he has grabbed my clowntrigger a couple of time s but remember they don,t hav good eye site so he might be going after your puffer thinking he is food ,try feeding the eel first than your puffer

I had a 6 inch snowflake eel bite a hole that killed a 5inch dogface puffer one feeding time because the dogface was eating the krill. They dont have good eye sight so i agree with the above post that he thinks it is food. Unfortunatly although they are not known for killing fish not big enough to swallow. Come feeding time there is always a big risk. Also the puffer might die of stress from all the bitings. In answer to your question though more than likely hes just looking for food and thats why he doesnt really attack is because he realizes its not. How long have they been together my puff was in there 1 year with the eel before the last attack. Sorry about the lengthy post but i would get rid of one or the other because if he does really bite the puffer and get through to the stomach it could kill the puffer and the eel the puffers are posinous. The eel that attacked my puffer died
