puffer plus other fish

I've been reading/researching about marine aquariums for a few months. I own a few books on it. I want to start a marine tank, but I want to make sure I do it right.
There are a lot of fish that I really like, but I know that I want a pufferfish (either porc, dog or val).
I also want some other interesting fish and possibly school fish. I haven't bought a tank yet as I want to figure out just what's possible and healthy for the desired fish. I'd like to do a 90 gallon tank, but would go higher.
My plan is FOWLR.
Can the smart people on this forum help me out with what fish would/would not work with a puffer?
Puffer (porc, dog, OR val)
Other Desired Fish
1 Comet(marine betta)
2 clown (ocellaris)
1 - 2 cardinal (banggai)
1 hawkfish (longnose probably)
1 dottyback (springer)
1 wrasse (bird or sunset)
I really would like a set of schooling fish
chromis (blue or green) - how many?
gobies (neon) - how many?
Also, would blennies do ok here? are there any cleaner type fish you'd recommend?
later on (size/species permitting)
1 tang (yellow)
or
1 angel (coral beauty)
how many of these are realistic? are there any other setups you'd recommend.
i really appreciate it.

iam no expert but ive had a dog face with an angel, tang, clowns, trigger, and damsels before with no problems.but i wouldnt cycle the tank with damsels, they were the most aggressive fish in the tank.i have 2-90 gallon tanks.no lr but i did add live sand.crushed coral.each tank has 2 canister filters one for filtering and one for biological.works great never have water problems.dont know if it is the cheapest way to go since the filters were some where about 300.00 dollars apiece. i think the biggest thing is be patient, dont rush stocking the tanks, causes all kinds of problems, kills costly fish, disease problem.its hard not to when you get your tank set up.hope this helps good luck

this was about 5 years ago.i believe the damsel then clown fish then angel then tang then trigger. they say triggers should be the last one you should put in your tank because they are so territorial. i moved and got rid of all the fish(too much trouble during the move).gave them to a friend. i kept the tanks,so now that iam settled in ive started them back up about 5 months ago. i ordered fish on line 7 days ago and there slowly dieing off.,but the other fish in the tank are fine.iam going to post a thread here to see if someone can explain why

Puffers for the most part will get along with most fish. Except maybe small ones, that they might develope a taste for. Someone on here posted that his dogface ate both of his clowns. Personally I have a 8 inch dogface with several small fish with no problems. As far as I know everything on your list should get along, minus the wrasse, those can be holy terrors and I wouldn't try that with a cardinal. (Personally they may be too nice to survive with your aggressive list) If you do the larger puffers I'd go with a larger tank. 125-150 it will make your life much easier because they are messy and the larger tank will absorb some of the swings you will experience. If you go with the val puffer, if you knock off your tang and the wrasse (maybe do a reef safer wrasse) you should be ok with something in the neighborhood of 75 gallons.
Personally I wouldn't recomend canister filters, they are a pain to upkeep. Try going with a big wet/dry. Your maintenence will be easier.
