Don't worry your eel will be ok. I just hope your puffer is not puffed up anymore. I think what may have happened is your eel was like searching for food and accidently snapped at your puffer so your puffer puffed up.

He may have just gotten stressed out by something, like the sfe snapping at him, like already mentioned. Sfe's have poor sight and that is definitely a possibility. The only way a fish could die from a puffer was if another fish eats them.
One more thing. Turning the lights on randomly may stress out your fish even more. I would get a timer and get them on a set day/night schedule. Fish do a lot better that way because their biological clock is not all out of whack all the time (biological clock imbalance = possible immune system imbalance).

and it's ok for them to puff up in the water...it may stress them a bit but they can take it, now if they puff up out of the water you might have a problem with air getting stuck in their system.

Something inside or outside the tank is spooking your puffer. THey only puff up for defensive purposes. I suggest trying to find the cause should you see this again. ...as it could stress out and get sick if the spooking continues. Do not concentrate on what is inside the tank...as they can puff due to something outside.....like a cat pawing at the tank, or a young child hitting the glass, etc.
