The porcupine puffer that I bought was traded in at the lfs because it was eating all of the previous owners damsels and chromis. I dont know if that is common, but thats what I was told.

That sounds fine. The only fish that the puffer may have a problem with are the damsels because of the damsels aggressive nature. Puffers do stick up for themselves, so if yours is picked and nipped by the damsels, the puffer may strike back. I know my puffer always strikes back to threats that come in his path.
